History: Jim was born into an upper-middle class home with both his parents possessing advanced degrees. He attended the best private schools and was always top in his class. High school was no different; Jim quickly rose to the top of his class there as in every other school he'd attended. He was also very popular for his ability to make even the most mundane thing humorous. As his powers started to develop, his parents feared cancer because of all the mole-like discolorations that started appearing on his body. Jim’s father contacted a friend of his from medical school, Dr. Jonathan Gregory. A dermatologist and an Air Force Captain, Gregory was serving as the chief medical officer at Cape Citadel, Florida. Jim and his family has planned to couple the medical trip with a vacation and go to Disney World before moving on to Cape Citadel, but Gregory was being transferred to another facility the day before they had planned to arrive and they had to push Jim’s examination time up. The day of Jim's examination coincided with Magneto’s attack on the base. Gregory had some military police escort Jim and his family away from the base, but Jim fought that proposition with stalwart resolution. He wanted to stay at Cape Citadel and watch Magneto destroy things, because he thought Magneto to be incredibly cool, but then the X-Men arrived. The X-Men were infinitely cooler because they were Jim’s age. At this point things started blowing up so Jim’s father grabbed hold of his family and shoved them into the car. They fled Cape Citadel, but in all the excitement no one noticed that the darkness had overtaken young Jim. They returned to Chicago on the first flight, attracting too much attention for comfort’s sake. As the Thompsons returned to their mundane lives they were faced with a new dilemma. Jim’s mutation was and still is difficult to conceal. At first, it wasn’t necessary to try. Jim’s friends at school all thought it was cool, but as mutant hysteria took hold of the community the Thompsons drew more and more heat from the adults who in turn taught their children to fear and hate. Jim’s father started losing patients he’d been treating for nearly ten years as their parents found new pediatricians. Eventually, the Thompsons existed almost entirely on Jim’s mother’s income. Jim’s father felt not manly and started drinking heavily. Soon they were unable to make the mortgage payments on their home and had to move. Jim’s grandmother had a big empty house down south, so they took up residence with her in Southern Virginia. Jim’s mother was able to find work in a small law firm where she met Anthony. His father lacked the desire to utilize his skills anymore and spent his days drinking. Contrary to stereotypical opinion, the residents of Martineville, VA were considerably more open-minded citizens and Jim was able to resume his education normally until he blew a hole in the chalkboard with his powers. It was decided that home schooling might be safer for everyone at least until Jim could learn to control his abilities. During his last year of high school, Jim and his father engaged in a shouting match that disintegrated into a fistfight. Jim’s size, soberness, and athletic ability allowed him to easily overcome his drunken, aged father who left the house in disgust. Jim’s father got into a fatal car accident that night. Anthony was a great comfort for the family, so much so that he and Jim’s mother began a relationship a few weeks before Jim left for college. Jim received concurrent Bachelor’s degrees from Morehouse in English and French. He spent his junior year in France and while he was overseas his mother and Anthony were married. He was editor of The Maroon Tiger in his senior year after having been a reporter for it for the three years before that. Following graduation, he returned home to Chicago to attend Loyola and work for Johnson Publishing Company first as an intern eventually making his way up through the ranks. After receiving his Master’s degree in English from Loyola, Jim resigned from Johnson Publishing after having made excellent contacts in the journalism field and planned to return home to visit with his family. It was at this otherwise peaceful time in his life that Jim had his second contact with other mutants and this time it was no less disastrous. He was kidnapped by a psychotic paraplegic who wanted to steal his young, healthy body and inadvertently rescued by X-Force. He joined the team, giving the mutant hero life a trial run, and incidentally gained a fortune and a new branch to his family tree as a result of his future self's time traveling. Eventually, however, Jim grew tired of the constant persecution that being a mutant entailed. He grew increasingly frustrated with X-Force’s, in his eyes, failure to be real heroes. He got really pissed off that he was constantly bankrolling X-Force’s misadventures. Then one day, he threw a fit and just up and left with Current. Their first stop was San Francisco, California where they imposed on Current's grandmother for a time while they were trying to determine what to do now that they were free of X-Force. They decided to go abroad with Current's 5-years-old son Jeremy Lopez because Jim had nothing better to do with his money or his time. Their first destination was the Swiss Alps for a ski trip. Of the trio, only Current had ever been skiing before so it was--interesting--to say the least. Then it was off to the Australian Outback for a change of climate. From their the trio went on to Japan and then to Russia. In Siberia, Jim purchased some purebred adult male Siberian Huskies. One (Patches) was a gift for Jeremy who was still dejected that he couldn't take a Koala bear home with him and the other (Misha) was Jim's. The trio returned to the United States with the dogs and stayed with Jim's mother and her husband for a while in Virginia. While there, Jim purchased a home in Colorado over the Internet on a whim. It's a 6 000 sq ft, 4-bed, 4-bath, 2-story home in Evergreen, Colorado, about 40-minutes-drive outside of Denver. The trio was on the road again (or in the sky again as it were) to see Jim's new house. Not being much for interior decoration, Jim hired a decorator, Leah Herrera, to purchase and outfit his new home with furniture and appliances. Leah was a graduate student of International Studies at the University of Denver as well as being an interior decorator and an incredibly attractive young woman. Jim purchased a black Jeep Cherokee Sport enrolled at the university to continue seeing Leah regularly once the house was finished and also to take a few courses in elementary physics. Nothing came of that, however, once her boyfriend came to visit. Jim hired a house/dog-sitter, a University of Denver MBA student named Jonathan Randall, and he, Current, and Jeremy took another trip. The trio this time visited the Holy Land and the pyramids. Jim decided to study theology in Jerusalem and the trio returned to Colorado. Once back in the States, they learned that a new team calling itself X-Force was reforming. Current immediately spurned the idea of checking them out, so Jim told him he was going to SoCal to study at the UCLA in physics and religion. This was in fact the true as he is enrolled as a part-time student at UCLA, but his real reason for traveling to California was to give X-Force a second chance.

Personality: Jim's a person who enjoys life immensely and tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve. He's the type of guy everyone else crowds around at a party. He's also very intelligent, but this doesn't always show through. Jim's the best if you have him as a friend though it takes an incredible effort to get on his bad side if he even has one.
